Question

Confused about HCG levels in my blood

So... i've been having pregnancy symptoms and I have had two pregnancies so I know what one feels like but I would only be 9 days past conception and since fertilization can take 6 days I could barely be pregnant I got my blood test back and it's a 4. I know if it's under five your considered not pregnant but why would I have any detectable level of the pregnancy hormone? I'm confused If I'm not pregnant or could I just be barely along. Anybody have a similar situation?

You are correct; under 5 they consider you as "not pregnant". HOWEVER you either were and your levels are falling or you are and your levels are rising :-) Sorry I couldn't be more help.

It's not unusual to have low levels of hcg in your system - that's why they have the 5-25 cutoff for considering someone pregnant. If it is as early as you say, it may just be too early. Are they having you come back for another test?

I'm no doctor or scientist - but The placenta is not the only thing capable of producing HCG, it can also be produced by the pituitary gland. Therefore HCG can be present in non pregnant women!
