Question

Cycle length confusion!!!

I used to ha e regular 31 day cycles, then I missed a cycle and it went to 37 days and then past two months has been 31 and 32 day cycles respectively. As per the ovulation calculators I should be most fertile from 18th May to 23rd may for a 31 day cycle. But I ovulated either on the 16th or 17th of May based on the clear blue digital ovulation stick which gave peak fertility for these two days. Also I felt a bit of pain on my right pelvic region on both sides and I had ewcm. My question is when can I take a hpt or expect a period? Would it be 14days from ovulation day approx? That would be 4 days before my usual period day for a 31day cycle.

It depends too on the length of your luteal phase (LP) (time from ovulation to your next period). Each women's LP length varies with typical and normal LPs about 12-14 days, some longer. For example, my average cycle was about 27 days with a LP of 12 days. So, I usually ovulated on the 15th day of my cycle and knew my period would start 12 days later (give or take a day). It's helpful to know the LP because usually it tends to stay the same even if your cycle ends up being longer. If I had a long cycle (for me 32 days), I would ovulate later but my LP would still be about 12 days. Hopefully this makes some sense and isn't too confusing!
