Progesterone after Ovulation

Hi! My doctor just put me on progesterone after ovulation for the first time, and I was wondering how close to ovulation should I have taken it? I definitely ovulated on Thursday night but he instructed me to start taking it on Saturday night? Since I didn't take it immediately, will that decrease my chances this cycle? I noticed I didn't have a temp spike until after I started the progesterone. Thanks!!

Two days after confirmed ovulation sounds good to me.
