41, I have a child and I was pregnant last year but I miscarried. Should I consider IVF now?
I have a child from a previous relationship and am very happy but would dearly like another child. I miscarried in February 2014 and haven't managed to get pregnant since, possibly 2 chemical pregnancies. I am 42 in December. Would anyone recommend IVF? I feel that I need to make some serious decisions fast. Thanks so much for reading x

Do you know why you miscarried? So sorry for your loss, by the way. If it was a chromosomal defect, then IVF with PGD testing might be the way to go to give you better odds, but it's pricey. Not knowing anything about your particular stats, it's really hard to say what your chances are. Have you had any fertility testing done, like a sperm analysis on your partner or AMH/FSH/AFC levels on you?

Hi Essemkay, thanks for taking time to reply! I don't know why I miscarried no, it was early around 6 weeks so i assumed just normal..I have never had a problem with fertility, i know i am lucky. Today we had tests sent away for sperm analysis and next week I am to have blood tests done. I know I ovulate as Dr tested for that. Sorry, i really don't know that much about the process, this really is week 1 of exploration.

Def get your amh tested. It will tell the dr about your ovarian reserve meaning egg quantity and quality. Most sources say that retrieving ~ 15 mature eggs per IVF cycle yields the best outcomes. With the amh test results and an antral follicle count a RE can fairly well predict how many eggs you might get during a stim cycle. Knowing that will help you make a decision to either go forward with IVF or to try alternatives like clomid, Femara, or FSH injections with trigger shot. Best to you.
