Question

Hi all. I'm debating on whether to have a D&C after my recent miscarriage. I need your help.

After a recent miscarriage I don't know which option to choose.
I could allow nature to take its course... I bled lightly for two weeks already... Now I'm passing small clots...
How much longer will bleed?
I could take pills... Don't want to do that as it comes with crappy side effects.
I could have a D&C. Which I'm told will stop bleeding immedtely... Is this true? We're you scared? I hear this is a common side effect? And obviously i don't want my chances to be less!
I'm had cramping yesterday with no painkillers and it was almost unbearable. I'm on pain meds today. Still not filling pads though...
I don't know which way to choose... Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

In my opinion, go for the D&C. I had one in January after the pills didn't work so it just prolonged everything. For me, I couldn't wait for it to happen naturally as I just wanted it done and over with. Doctor also said that waiting could possibly cause infection as well.

I voted for D&C because after having had 7 miscarriages I feel that the D&C quickly and safely puts to rest a sad and difficult situation not emotionally but at least physically in some form or fashion. I have tried to miscarry naturally at home 3 times, around between 8 and 11 weeks and it was very hard to handle. Eventually, I ended up in the hospital with one incident. Wishing you the best and hoping you will know what's best for you.

How far along were you? For my early miscarriages, I go with the natural route. But for pregnancies past about 10-11 weeks, I go with D&C.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I was 11 weeks BUT the baby died at 7 weeks so still small.
On the screen yesterday though it was fully intact... Looked like a normal baby almost even though ive been bleeding on and off for 2 weeks.
Passing very small clots now... Not sure how long this will take naturally.
I bled for 5/6 days very heavily with my loss at 5.4 wks.
But I'm unsure about how this one will happen and when and how long?
Hope that helps.

How far along was the pregnancy?

Technically it was 7 weeks... Even though I didn't find out until 11 weeks.
Was obvious now as my symptons disappeared then too.

I'd do the D&C.

Again, I'm so sorry.

I would have a d&c. I had one in 2011 and I was pregnant a month later. It cleans out everything and it makes you super fertile after the following period.

I just had a d&c last Thursday. I was 11.5 weeks but bub had passed somewhere between 9-10 weeks. I'm sorry you are going through this. I opted for a d&c as quite often a natural miscarriage can lead to ad & c anyway due to heavy bleeding and retained products. I just wanted it over. Also even tho bub passed at 7 weeks the sac etc can keep growing so there could be a lot of bulk in your uterus. I barely had any bleeding afterwards but five days later I started bleeding and cramping like the first day of a heavy period. The doctor said it's not uncommon to start bleeding like a period as hormones decline similar to a withdrawal bleed after being on progesterone. Again, I feel your pain a and I'm very sorry. May the next short while be kind to us on our ttc journey. :)
