Not seeing the doctor till 8 weeks?
So over the weekend I found out that I am pregnant. My last period was Feb 28th. I took a digital test with the weeks indicator on it and it said 1-2 weeks.
My doctor said they don't set up the first appt till 8-10wks, we set up the date for around 8 weeks.
Is this normal? Should I go somewhere to just get a blood test to just make sure? If so where do you go for that?
Thank you

By the sounds of it you are in the UK hun yes in the UK its anything between 8-10 weeks before seeing the doctor. when I asked the Doctor why this was he said to me that's when most MC's occur. Nice right!
What I have read every other country can get confirmation through bloods straight away...Sucks to be in the UK.
You still count the weeks from the first day of your cycle through, so your more like 4 weeks along xx

Thanks! I'm in the US in Maryland. I asked why as well and I'm assuming it was because of that. I asked if i could just get a blood test to confirm but she said nah as long as you have taken tests and they are positive that is what we do. Your Urine is fine she said lol So now I just need to know when do you normally start telling your family, I won't be making it public till after 12 weeks but should you tell your family before the appt, maybe in a few weeks if everything is going ok?

Yes I see you point babes, its the happiest time of your life and you want to share it, the past 2 MC's I have had, I had the same dilemma. On the first I told everyone I was pregnant 10 weeks later we lost our angel. the hardest thing was telling ppl that.
On the second MC 6wks 4days we only told our girls 16 & 21 then when we had MC we told parents. I think if we catch again I would tell parents close friends ect....but that would be it. its so painful telling ppl if the worst happens, but at the same time its nice to have some support.
I hope it doesn't get to that point for you chick and you have a healthy pregnancy...its a personal choice. Do what you feel. good luck xx

Totally normal, I'm in Maine, USA and my doctor's office will not set up appointments before 8 weeks (and none of them in the area that I live in do, to my knowledge). It is SO scary at first, I worried so much in between appointments! With my daughter I ended up going to the ER at 6 weeks because of nonstop vomiting and severe cramping so I got a blood test and ultrasound there... found out I had a SCH which they then considered me high risk until the second trimester

Hi Sweetie,
Yes, if you do start bleeding, or having cramps that are frequent and annoying/uncomfortable, then you need to either Call your OB and have them see you that day, or go to the ER. It's totally normal to bleed a little bit, but usually if you have some cramping it can be a sign of miscarriage.
And yes - 8 weeks is the first appointment, unless you tend to miscarry frequently, or had a very difficult previous pregnancy. :)
Congrats!

I found out i was pregnant last wk. I went to my primary care doc to confirm and he did. I called my obgyn office and she scheduled me on 5/5/15. I am 5wks now. So she'll see me on my 7th-8th wk. The heartbeat is developed onto 4 chambers during the 7th week so you can hear it via transvaginal u/s
