Washed sperm has a much shorter life span (6-12 hours) than untreated sperm (up to 5 days, most often 2-3 days). Therefore, it is a good idea to bd again especially if you are not doing 2 IUIs back-to back. I have never become pregnant with it. According to statistics most couples have to do a few IUIs before becoming successful. I wish you the best of luck this time around!

We had been trying on our own and finally after having a HSG and Lap surgery done we had our first IUI. So last Oct which made it our 20th cycle we had our first IUI done and it was successful! It was medicated so we were on fertility meds and then about half way through our cycle after the doc did a vag u/s to see if there were any good size follies we had the HCG shot and then next day IUI. He told us to wait 36 hrs and then have sex again. I think it depends on your DH's sperm. If he builds up fast then I guess that night would work too. But my doc has us on a EOD BD'ing cycle. Sadly that cycle we lost it and had an early mc Nov 10th and then after one period we got pg again and lost that one as well on Jan 15. This cycle which is cycle #25 for us we did another IUI and the doc followed the same procedure but instead has me on progesterone pills. I pray that this one sticks and that 3rd times the charm. But I would at least make sure you have sex again between 24-36 hrs.

Mostly the docs want to make sure you are filled up with as much sperm as possible. Yes the IUI is concentrated with good healthy sperm but just in case you didn't O in time after the HCG shot they want you to get your best chance possible. Now if you can't do it then that's fine too and hopefully that sperm was enough for you.
