Question

HCG levels

I had a blood test on Wednesday at which point I was 3 weeks 5 days pregnant. The results came back at 74 and the nurse is telling me this is low, however I thought this was high considering I just missed my period today and received a positive test 5 days early. Any thoughts or experiences? Thank you!

I think your nurse is mistaken. If you just missed your period today, that number is not low. When are they going to retest to make sure the numbers are doubling?

I'm glad to hear you agree. They are re-testing on Monday but I have had several missed miscarriages and her comment just made me very nervous. Trying to keep positive thoughts but it's going to be a long wait until we can check for a heartbeat.

Do you know how many days past ovulation you are? If so, you can play around with the betabase and compare your numbers to others to make you feel better. betabase.info is the web address

I have never heard of that before - I will look into it, thanks! I don't know exactly how many DPO but I have a range of 3-4 days max.

I understand being nervous. My first and only (so far) pregnancy was a chemical. I lost it 5 days after I found out I was pregnant, so I know I will probably be a wreck when I get pregnant again until I see a heartbeat and know it's viable. I am sorry you have had to endure several miscarriages, and an (apparently) insensitive, uninformed nurse on top of that. Crossing my fingers for you that this will be a healthy pregnancy for you. Good luck!

cdd1981 is right! If you just missed your period then that is not a low number at all. And what's more important is that the number doubles in 48-72 hours and then again in 48-72 hours after that test. I really wish some of these nurses would just keep their mouths shut if they didn't have something positive or encouraging to say. Congrats on your BFP! :)
