Question

Twin confusion! Chances of twins if my grandmother's dad/aunt were twins?

So I know identical twins are not hereditary and fraternal are (maternally) but what about my grandmother's dad? Some articles say the male can pass on the gene but it doesn't increase his chances of having twins and some say it has to be mom to daughter. Would it have been possible for him to pass the gene to my grandmother and then my mother and then me. Anyone have any information or advice? Thanks!

That is a very good question, I have fraternal twins that run on both sides of my family. My grandmother on my moms side her cousins were twins and then my cousin who is 4 yrs yonger than myself had twins girls (mom's side again) and my dad's sister has twin boys. So with my age (40) and the history is there a chance of myself having twins? Also, my husband has one set of twin cousins but not sure what side of the family. Good luck to you.

The potential for fraternal twins passes female to female only,

I've always understood it as follows: Mom has fraternal twins. The girl could go on to have fraternal twins, but not the boy. However, if the boy were to have a daughter, she could have twins. My sister has fraternal twins (boy/girl) and that is what I have always understood.
