Question

For those of you who have had an ectopic, what were your signs and symptoms?

I had a scan at 4w2d and nothing was seen on the ultrasound. I have had once or twice over the last two days expierenced a sharp pain on my lower right side abdomen. Really low. Probably lasts a few seconds and a 3 out of 10 on a pain level. I've had a chemical pregnancy and more recently a blighted ovum so I'm just wondering what everyone felt. Thanks.

Hi, For me I felt severe pain in abdomen even up under my ribs. It would strike and then I would take a hot bath and things would feel better, this went off and on for a week. I called my midwife and she said "digestion changes w hormones, things are changing". Well it kept happening and after a week I started bleeding and thought it was a miscarriage but three days into it the pain struck again after nothing for a few days. I took a bath went to bed and when I woke up in the morning I really couldnt move without pain. I was have what I now know was referral pain up around my collar bone. A long very scary story short, I went to the ER and they had me in emergency surgury within 30 min. The tube had burst and my abdominal cavity had been filling with blood hence the referral pain. Don't mess around with it if it is unusual pain, don't tough it out. The ob ER told me a woman the month before came in with the same thing and waited too long in the lobby and they lost her, they w

...on watch with me and said if I had waited another few hours the story would be different. I lost 50% of the blood in my body. Thank goodness for emergency medicine. Take care and call the Hospital OB triage number and ask questions whenever you have doubt, just be safe! xoxo

Thanks for sharing your stories. I'm not having any bleeding or spotting, nor really any pain. I just felt a twinge or two over the last two days. I will be getting my second HCG results today and then I have another scan scheduled for 2/20. I will defintely mention this when they call today.
Thanks again.

I had bright red blood in the morning only, then it would stop. I had no pain in my abdomen but I did have a bad ache in my shoulder. By the time I got to the hospital my tube had ruptured and I was bleeding internally to the point that the doctor had to open me up across my abdomen (like a csection) because there was too much blood in my abdomen for her to see what she was doing. But it is also very normal for them not to see anything in the uterus before 5-6 weeks so try not to panic.

I had some very mild pain low on my left side for about two days before my first OB appt at 6wks. After my initial check-up by the nurse which was all fine, I started cramping and feeling nauseous. Long story short, within two hours of the onset of the cramping and nausea I had passed out twice in the parking lot trying to get in my car and barely had the strength to call my fiance to come get me because I couldn't drive. He took me straight to the ER and I was in surgery that night with a ruptured ectopic and lost my left tube. I'd had no other symptoms, no bleeding.

Always best to call your doctor. I really didn't think anything of the pain I had the two days before, but in hindsight I guess that was the beginnings of my ectopic. Not that it would have changed the outcome, but maybe I wouldn't have had to go through the trauma of passing out and needing emergency surgery.

Chances are everything is fine, but no harm in calling to make sure. Good luck.
