Question

Hypothyroidism, miscarriage. And ttc. Help?!

Just found out I have hypothyroidism, after a miscarriage. And ttc. How do I cope with the miscarriage and increased risk of miscarring again with hypothyroidism? Needing some advice to keep faith, and hope up.

Don't worry too much about hypothyroidism causing miscarriage. I've been hypothyroid for years and have conceived three healthy babies. I've had two miscarriages but don't think my thyroid played a role. Miscarriage is very common (heart achingly so). I have Hashimoto's and take 150mcg thyroxine daily. Once you get your levels up and steady I don't think there's much more risk than normal. I would suggest though that you take baby aspirin from the day after ovulation and through your pregnancy if you get a bfp. Hypothyroidism is typically an autoimmune issue and baby aspirin may help you reduce the chance of miscarriage due to immune issues related to this. Don't lose hope at all you will get your baby I'm sure of it. I am sorry for your loss it is excruciatingly disappointing but you will survive this. :)

I'm so sorry about your loss!
I've got Hashimoto's Thyroiditis like Maggic. I was told that with "normal" hypothyroidism, as long as I was treated and my levels were good, there's no increased risk of m/c. If you're treated properly, your body acts as if it has that supplemented hormone naturally and there shouldn't be any problem. Unfortunately for me, I was told that with Hashimoto's, even while treated you can have symptoms as if you weren't. I take 220mcg a day and have a very severe case. Even with all of that working against me, my husband and I managed to conceive and are now almost 26 weeks along. We did lose three while TTC for 5 years, but those miscarriages made it clear we could conceive and in a very sad way, gave us hope that we would.

It's tough to hear, but miscarriage happens in 25% of pregnancies. You've got to keep your head up and never lose hope! If you are treated, you have no increased chance of m/c, and that's a good place to start! Good luck and b

I got was diagnosed with hypothyroid after my first pregnancy, It took me a while to conceive my second, but once I did I didn't lose her, though I had a high chance that I would because of an subchorionic hematoma but thats irrelevant to the hypo. I am very thankful that I didn't lose her, but I just learned recently about the higher chance of miscarriage with hypothyroid. Check out Hypothyroid Mom on facebook, she's got LOTS of info and has taught me a lot! I'm sorry for your loss, and I hope your able to meet with a doc, (perhaps an endocrinologist?) that can help you maintain a healthy pregnancy!

I have the same experiences and those below..I also have Hashimoto's. My doctors have all said that as long as the thyroid is properly managed, getting pregnant shouldn't be an issue. I have experienced issues finding the right dose of medication as my Hashimoto's can make my levels fluctuate. A good thing too is many people respond well to thyroid meds. Many women ttc have thyroid issues and you'll find many who go on to have healthy pregnancies!
