Question

TTC without aid for 3 years, seeing my doctor Thursday.

My son is three years old. Since the doctor gave us the OK after I had him, my husband and I have been not "not trying", aka unprotected sex. Since my son, I have PCOS. I've had maybe 5 periods over the course of 3 years. I went to my yearly pap over the summer and my OBGYN asked if I was ready to have another baby. I was too ashamed to say yes. A few months ago, my husband and I decided we really need to consult her. I am 21 years old, my husband is 28. I feel like we shouldn't be having the is problems at our age. Why do I feel so ashamed? Does anyone have any tips on what to do, or what to expect at the first visit

I felt the same way and also have pcos. I waited 6 years before I Asked my Dr for help. I found out even though I was having regular periods I was not ovulating. No ovulation no baby ; ( I am now on round 2 of clomid. With your periods all over the place is sounds like you are not ovulating either. Talk to your doctor and see about taking medicine to help you. Good luck.

I'm sorry you feel ashamed. Many women have PCOS and have trouble, so know you are not alone. You are young, but don't let people just tell you that you are too young to be worrying about it. 5 periods in 3 years isn't normal, and you need to consult your doctor about that. It's important to keep PCOS in check for more reasons than only having a baby. For your appointment you should bring up the lack of periods and what your options are. You may have to induce a period with provera and do Day 3 bloodwork to see where your hormone levels are. You should also have fasting insulin and glucose levels taken to make sure you aren't insulin resistant since many women with PCOS are. If you are, you may be prescribed metformin. Many women are prescribed it even if they don't have insulin resistance and for many women it can restore ovulation. If you are overweight they may also suggest you lose 5-10% of your body weight to induce a period. There are many options out there, you just need to ask.
