Question

Progesterone Creams, do they work???

I have heard of women trying Progesterone creams after having a miscarriage, I am thinking of trying that if I get pregnant again. It is suppose to help the baby "stick". Most of the labels say "Do not use if pregnant or nursing", which worries me. Have you used the creams with any success??? When and if I get pregnant again I will ask my OBGYN for sure, but who knows how long that will be. Any advice is much appreciated :)

I had 3 losses, several chemical pregnancies, and we were TTC 5 years. I had suddenly stopped ovulating and started using Progesterone cream to force my cycle into coming. It worked for that very well. Another problem that we had was that my LP was 10 days at the max, which usually indicates low Progesterone levels. If your LP is too short, the baby doesn't have enough time to implant. So we decided to use Progesterone after ovulation to lengthen my LP. We conceived that cycle, and I am now 25 weeks pregnant. It took us over 5 years, and this is the only thing we changed in our TTC routine, but we got pregnant!
Just so you know, there are no ill effects for using Progesterone. You cannot over-dose. You cannot harm yourself or your baby by using it.
Also, if you do get pregnant, you will need to tell your OB/GYN that you are on it so they can monitor your levels. You'll have to stay on it for about 12 weeks.

I also wanted to mention that you should be using it immediately after ovulation. You start it the next day after ovulation, then use it for 14 more days. At that point (or before, really) you'll need to take an hpt. If it is positive, stay on Progesterone. If not, stop it and your cycle will start as usual. You should be using it preemptively immediately after ovulation. You shouldn't be using it only while pregnant unless you are told by a doctor that your levels are too low to maintain a pregnancy.

Dana, I think you so much for your time in answering me. This makes a lot of sense to me. I am already 4dpo so I guess I missed the boat this time. I am already having symptoms like I did my last pregnancy so there is a chance I could be pregnant since we are trying. If I am pregnant, then I should not take progesterone unless told so by a Doctor, right? Hopefully my next one sticks!!! Thanks! Congrats and healthy 9 months~!

Yes ma'am. If you do conceive, ask your doctor to test your Progesterone level. Mention that you feel that you may be lacking sufficient Progesterone. If it is too low, they will be able to get you a prescription, usually for supplements or suppositories. If it's ok, then you have that peace of mind, and you'll know that you don;t need it in the future. Good luck!
