Should I take a pregancy test on the second of january?

I have 2 boys ages 8 and 3 and when I got preggo with them I took a test or two each time aand it showed up negative but when I went in to get blood tests done the blood tests showed up I was preggo im.just confused why i was getting negatives on those pee tests ( I took them a few days after af was supposed to show up) thanks
