Question

What to expect at first Doctors appt. at ~8 weeks

I'm just wondering what I should expect at my first Doctors appointment that is scheduled for 1/8/15. I will be ~8 weeks pregnant. Haven't had blood drawn or anything as they don't do anything until the 8 to 10 week mark. This sounds kind of "messed up" but is it worth it to have the hubby come with me? I mean, if they are just going to do blood work and that's it then I feel like he doesn't need to take time off. On the other hand, if they are going to do an ultrasound I will want him there and he will not want to miss it. What happens at that first appointment?

I have never been pregnant before, so I wouldn't really know, but I would have your hubby come with you. I think it is important to do these things together! I am sure they will examine you..and I would imagine an ultrasound would be done!

They will do an ultrasound! Usually just to confirm baby is doing okay. Bring Hubby for moral support :)

I would just call and ask if they do a routine dating u/s on site at the first appt. My first ob appt at 10 weeks was just general history questions and blood work. They didn't have an ultrasound machine in their office so I had to schedule the u/s for a different day at another location. It would be a bummer to get there with your hubby and not have anything exciting happen. I know if I had brought my hubby to that appt he would have been pacing the room, complaining, probably getting into the cotton balls and rubber gloves lol. Giant kid! I do want to take him to at least 1 appt though so he can meet the doctor since she might be the one delivering our baby.

They are definitely going to take urine & blood. They are also going to check the babys heartbeat. Im now 31 weeks pregnant. My husband has been to every appointment. Their going to use the ultrasound machine to check babys heartbeat & possibly give you pictures until your about 12 weeks. After that they will use a regular hand held machine to check hrtbt. Youll only get about 3 to 4 ultrasounds if pregnancy is normal. 2 of them will be checking growth & 1 is for gender. Only time youll get more is if complications with pregnancy. Congrats mum.
