Question

Birth Control

So, I saw my doctor today about my irregular periods and he said everything was normal for me. He said I had two options: do nothing or birth control. Honestly, as I am trying to have a baby, I really don't want birth control, but if it'll help regulate my cycle, then it's my only option.

I guess, what I want to ask is... How long should I be on it before stopping it to start actually trying?

If I don't start my period in the next couple of weeks, I'm going to test to see if I am pregnant before calling the doctor to bring on my period to start it. I'm really hesitant about birth control because of the first time I was on it. :s any suggestions, ladies?

It will regulate your period while you are on it, but these are not actual periods they are withdrawl bleeds, soon as you stop bc your cycles could easily go back to being irregular or they might go regular its not certain.
do you use ovulation kits? I had mad cycles after a mc an luckily I av ovulation spotting an pains so I always no my fertile days.
I'm thinking you could maybe use a opk an go from there, I dont think bc is the way to go.

I wouldn't recommend the birth control.
I was on the pill for 3 years.
Just recently quit and I am still trying to figure out what is "regular" for my period.
I'm on my 3rd cycle since I quit the pills, and it was exactly 1 week later than I estimated, can you imagine my excitement when I tested?
I'm just saying the birth control for me did not create a regular period for me (as far as i know), and instead made me confused.

Birth control can actually cause long term damage. Look up natural progesterone that has been helpful in many cases. You can find it over the counter and it can be prescribed by a doctor and get cover by insurance. For women who are low in progesterone it can help with conception.

Before trying anything you should get your hormone levels tested to make sure it's a good fit for you.

In my experience, doctors like to prescribe birth control as the fix all miracle cure, do your own research! Good luck! ^_^

I don't recommend birth control, especially if you want to get pregnant. I was on it for a year, and it made me gain weight, and i was so exhausted all of time and it made me depressed. It took me a while after coming off of it to feel normal again, but i lost the weivht and feel a million times better. I have pcos, and a lot of doctors just want to put you on the pill to solve everything. That's what my gynocologist wanted to do. My endocrinologist on the other hand is terrific, and she said she wouldn't put me on anything if it wasn't for me trying to get pregnant. There are other thing you can do to help you ovulate, birth control will regulate your period, but it will not help your ovulation. My doctor is starting me on metformin to help ovulation. Regular exercise and cutting out sugar and white flour should help you regulate your period. Good luck to you!

So, after reading everything, I basically should just call the doctor and tell him to cancel the birth control and figure out my own ways to regulate. I'm thinking about just trying it for a month and see if I have the same reaction as last time. And then if I do, I'll give up on it. :/ I'm not sure yet. I was thinking about trying that Vitex/ Chastebery stuff I keep hearing about everywhere.
