Question

Threatened miscarriage?

I am 5 weeks pregnant. This morning I slipped and fell on our back steps. (There are only two steps) I went to the emergency room cause I was pretty scared. They did ALL KINDS of tests. (Ultrasound, internal and external, and a pelvic exam) after checking those she came and told me I was actually 5 weeks and 3 days. They said the labs came back normal. But when I got home I saw that the papers said "Miscarriage (threatened)"
I am going to try to call tomorrow but does that mean that something is wrong? Would they have seen if I hurt the baby?

I think they baby is pretty well protected in you uterus. They probably put that because you came in worried about the fall and causing a miscarriage. Call you doctor tomorrow to put your mind at ease but try not to worry to much, everything should be fine. GL.

Don't worry that is your medical identifier I'm sure! When I had my d & c following a missed miscarriage I was literally asked 'are you the d& c?' To which I replied 'no, I'm here to have one but that is not my name'! Honestly at your ER world over you will be identified as 'threatened miscarriage, bed 8', or suspected appendicitis, bed 9 etc based on what your concern was. They do the same with your ultrasound referral. Your name will be on it but they'll also identify you by what your request is for. I used to be a nurse and I hated this. I do think your bubba will be fine. I was hit in my car by a hit and run driver at 100km per hour when I was 12 weeks pregnant and baby didn't even notice! I've heard early pregnancy described as a pea held in the middle if a jam sandwich, pretty protected! I do understand your worry, take it easy, your baby obviously wants to be here! :)

They wouldn't of seen the baby at all on the u/s at 5 w3d they would of only seen the gestational sac and possible the yolk sac, they wouldn't of seen a foetal pole, it's too early. I've had 6 pregnancies and a zillion u/s so have a lot of experience. Good luck I'm sure everything will be fine and maybe they just put that as you explained your accident to them. I'm sure of you go back after 6 weeks you will see the foetal pole and a heartbeat. Take Care and be carful, all the best.

Thats not always true, I had a vaginal scan at 5 weeks 4 days an they seen a heartbeat. I think they put threatened mc just because of uour fall an the tests tbey done.
im sure you will be fine, I fell over a big pile of clothes onto a hard floor before 12 weeks an at 17 weeks I tripped over my maxi dress onto a concrete pavement. Good luck x
