Question

Can not having a Rhogam injection after a miscarriage cause more miscarriages?

I am RH negative and had the injections for all five of my healthy live births (my kids are now ages 18,16,14,13, and 9) and then had a mis. in 2006 due to a sexual assault. This led to me taking my kids and fleeing. I do not know if I had the injection after the mis. as I was fairly out of it and traumatized.

I am now remarried and we have had two miscarriages, one last year and one two weeks ago. I have not received any injections and am worried that this is causing my miscarriages. When I asked my doctor she got upset and had her receptionist tell me to go find a new doctor. I have scheduled an appointment with a new doctor but am upset and wondering if anyone knows about this?

Shame on that Dr for getting upset over a question! If she didnt know the answer, she had plenty of resources available to her to research it and give you a decent answer!
I hope your next Dr is much more helpful.
I personally do not know if that is affecting your ability. Could it maybe be that combined with age? I know I'm just adding to the questions, sorry.
I'm sorry to hear about your horrible ordeal. My sympathies...
Please let us know if the new Dr is helpful!

I actually am pretty sure it can. When you are Rh negative your body attacks the fetus as you already know. It could be age related as well. If your oldest is 18 I would assume you are at least nearing 40? Plus 5 kids takes its toll on the body. I would definitely try the injections tho since my grandma had her 7th and final child at 35 with an iud in. Age and number of offspring doesn't always mean something.

Yes, not having the rhogham shot after a miscarriage, abortion, or birth can cause subsequent miscarriages. That's bc antibodies form (if the fetus had rh pos blood type) & attack the developing baby. Before the shot, rh neg women would often have miscarriage after miscarriage, stillbirths, and babies born with birth defects. However, it is fairly easy to tell if you have antibodies. All it takes is a simple blood test. I'm rh neg, and with both of my pregnancies, they have checked for antibodies at my first prenatal appt and at least one more appt further into the pregnancy (usually right before they give you the initial shot at around 28 wks).
