Question

When should I worry about not conceiving?

Hi,

My husband and I are ttc but we are having many disappointments, please can you tell me your experiences of coming off birth control as I am worrying that the long usage has lead me not to be able to have children and I am already 36.

I have been on the Nuristerate birth control injection for many years and then went on the pill to "regulate" my cycle but stopped all birth control in March 2014.

My cycles vary from 25-29 days and I have only started ovulating the past 4 cycles and have been using opk. My symptoms of each cycle has been the same but my latest cycle made me have really sensitive breasts and monstrous cramps. I have also been eating like mad and very tired. These symptoms are much more exaggerate than previous and was wondering if this is normal?

When should I start worrying that me not conceiving might be due to something more and not my body just "returning" to normal after birth control?

I took BCP for close to 15 years when I started TTC my first child. It took 7 months total to get pregnant. I think the first 4 months, my body was adapting and then my cycles started to normalize. We are now on month 6 of being birth control free and 4 months of TTC baby #2. If you're not charting your temps, I would start. It has helped me immensely since the fertility monitors and OPK always have me ovulating way earlier than my temps state. It also gave me piece of mind that I AM ovulating and my cycles are normal.
If not, I keep reading to try for a least a year before contacting your GYN.
Good luck!!!

Since you are over 35 and have been TTC for over 6 months, I would go see a fertility doctor now. They will be able to run some tests and see if medications or any procedures could help speed the process along. GL!

Thank you so much for your reply! Yes I have been charting my temps since March but it took my body 4 months to actually have a normal cycle and ovulate so wondering if it will maybe take 2-3 months more for a normal cycle to make +- 6 months of TTC?

It really is reassuring that there are other women going through the same thing.

Thanks again!
