Question

Allergies from the Father

Hi,

This may be a 'silly' question but I truly don't know the answer.

My partner (the father of our expected child) has an anaphylactic reaction to peanuts - does this mean the baby will and should I not have them during pregnancy (occasionally I have them when he's away)

Any answers would be helpful.
Thanks in advance :)

I don't think it can affect the baby prenatal. But postnatal you'll have to introduce peanuts with caution.

Your baby might inherit the allergy from the father. Eating the odd peanut when pregnant might help the baby not develop a nut allergy (but there are no guarantees). You would have to take care not to get peanuts near the father though! My friend has just been through this, so far her toddler is fine - but the peanut allergy could pop up anytime in the future so she is very cautious of his eating peanut butter or any cakes with nuts.
