Question

Do you chart your BBT?

This is my 1st time charting my BBT and I have a couple questions.

1. I have had a drop in my temp for the past 2 days, how long does the drop usually last? When should my temp go back up to indicate I have ovulated?

2. How accurate is the drop in temp to tell that you ovulated?

3. My temp dropped the same day that my OPK said I was very fertile and it was the same day that I started seeing EWCM. Is this normal for it to all happen on the same day?

Any other information you wanna leave on BBT would be helpful. I think you might be able to look at my chart if you want to. If you cant let me know and I will figure out how to share it.

More important than the dip is the subsequent spike in temperature that indicates ov has taken place. The higher level of progesterone that follows ov is what creates the elevated temp, so that rise will need to be sustained for three days to count as a true thermal shift. Not everyone will see a dip on the day of ov, which is one reason why opk's are such a good tool at alerting you to impending ov since bbt only indicates that you already have ovulated.

In general, you can assume ov some time in the 12-48 hours after you see your first +opk, but don't panic if it takes longer as that's just a guideline.

Seeing all the signs come together at the same time is great! CM is a really good indicator of fertility, as is the lh surge, so it's only natural that you'd see all the pieces falling into place as expected :). The great thing about charting and tracking symptoms and cm is that you get an idea for what is normal for you, thus abnormal may signal new possibilities :).

Thank you, Paperheart. That all was very helpful. I had a miscarriage in July and this is my 3rd cycle since that. I have never worried about getting pregnant before, it just happened. And now my normal has totally changed and everything is abnormal, but is now the new normal (if that makes sense). The miscarriage is making me have to learn my body and cycles all over again. After this cycle if I am not pregnant, I go in for testing. That is why I started the charting of my BBT and OPKS. Hopefully this will be my cycle though... Thank you again!

Good luck to you! I'm much in your same boat as I had a m/c in May and am now dealing with issues I didn't have before. It wasn't my first m/c, but it's the first time we've ttc soon after a m/c. There were years in between our first loss and ttc again. And of course, any pregnancy can affect your cycles, so it may be more a result of being pg than of losing the pregnancy. I've got two dc's and my cycles have changed after both of them. I had some lab work and an u/s in September to check out all my levels and to make sure my uterus is healthy and everything looked good on paper despite some absolutely crazy stuff going on. I'm testing Sunday, though, and hoping for a bfp :).
