Question

Tiny mamas with current or previous pregnancies! I need your wisdom lol

So i was curios. I have anxiety. And its eating away at me. Im nearly six weeks today. (5w5d) and i am 5'2 and 84 pounds. Very small. And was worried about my smallness affecting my risk of miscarriage.. Also i want to tell my family once i hear the heart beat at 9 weeks, but a friend of mine said since im so small it might be noticeable by then!? So i was wondering if thats true. I want to tell my father before he finds out for himself.

Since you are quite underweight you may want to ask your doctor right away about how much weight he/she wants you to gain during this pregnancy...I don't think your risk of MC goes up dramatically unless you are unhealthy (malnourished, eating disorder, etc) so hopefully that won't be a big concern. Definitely ask your doctor about the weight gain though because you may need to start trying to gain earlier than most women do to "catch up" a bit. GL! :)

I wouldnt worry too much about showing before u see the hb at 9 wks, the uterus is still tucked behind the pubic bone at that point. U may get some bloating or gain a cpl lbs but that could be blamed on af if need be...u wont look pregnant. Make sure to take ur prenatals everyday, and eat healthy. Being underweight wont increase ur mc rate by much, if anything at all, but u will need to gain more per week than someone of average weight. Assume somewhere around a lb a week.
Congrats! =))

My sister was taller than you, but very small when she became pg with her first (5'7", and 90 lbs) and she had no complications. Incidentally, she was 5 months pg before she revealed her news and none of us knew prior to her telling us. Granted, her longer torso would've helped her in that regard. Her ob did encourage her to take in quite a few calories every day to ensure that enough went to the baby and not just to her own body. That said, my cousin who is 4'11" and weighed about 85-90 lbs didn't begin to show early and she had no problems with either of her pregnancies and her first was 9+ lbs. As pp said, nutrition matters greatly and size alone shouldn't put you at greater risk if you're taking in enough calories, preferably from nutritious sources. Peanut butter, banana, pear, and spinach smoothies are one of my favorite ways to get lots of vitamins and a good dose of protein.

Thank you ladies for your responses. I do feel better. And yes i have been under watch for my weight since i was 16. I eat and eat but nobody can figure out where its all going! (Pre pregnancy) I've had numerous test done to find out why with no results. But I've been drinking protein shakes (while still eating other healthy meals) to maybe give me an extra boost! So i think I'm just panicking. But thank you all!

My mom has always been about 90 lbs and 5' 2. she has had 3 full term pregnancy's. granted all c-sections but still healthy pregnancies. but to be on the safe side, wait til your at least going into your second trimester, by then your chances of MC drop. And your size doesnt matter to that affect. anyone can MC. just stay healthy for you and that baby :)
