Question

Question about temping.

This is my first month temping. I typically temp around 8 am every day. This morning, I was awoken around 5:30-6 by my ds when he got up to use the bathroom and decided to go ahead and temp in case I had a difficult time going back to sleep. If was 96.98, which is a bit warmer than my norm. I did end up going back to sleep and woke up at 9:30. My temp then was 96.5, which is a slight dip from what it's been for the past two days, but exactly what it was three days ago. I will also mention that I tested positive for lh surge last night just before midnight. I'm inclined to use the later temp because I was less startled when I woke and it's closer to my normal time frame of when I temp. My opk is slightly lighter at 10 am today than it was last night when it was positive. Any help is appreciated!

This is a tough question to answer because it's different for everyone. For me, I can take my temp earlier than usual by an hour or so and it's still pretty accurate, but if I take it 1-2 hours later than normal it can be a whole degree higher (and it doesn't seem to matter if I wake up and go back to sleep before temping, as long as I temp at the usual time). Other women have a totally different experience and know that they can temp whenever they wake up as long as they've been sound asleep for at least 3 hours, or they can temp late but not early, etc. What I do is record whichever temp I believe is more accurate but mark it as discarded - I can see it on my chart but it won't interfere if it's inconsistent with the overall pattern - and make a note to myself of the other temp for future reference. Either way, one temp doesn't make too much difference overall. And yay for pos opk, happy bd'ing!

Thanks, YarnLady :). My 5:30 temp was warmer than I've ever been and the 9:30 temp was one I've been probably half of the days I've been temping, so I'm thinking I'll use that one, but keep a note of the warmer temp.

I would ditch 'em both. The first temp would actually be higher had u woke up at 8 and the 9:30 would be lower. On avg about .2F for every hour early/late is added or subtracted from the taken temp, but this is just an estimate and not accurate. If I had to post one, its always the first temp, thats the longest rest period and in the time frame that u usually rest (thus making house temps and conditions the exact same). Ur call tho.
Good luck! =))

I think in this particular case it doesn't really matter because neither temp would be "enough" to indicate that you ovulated already - hopefully today is your O day! Your temp will likely jump quite a bit when you ovulate. GL! :)

Thanks for the insight, ladies! That's a good point, luvtowalkfast! I hope I'll se my jump in the morning. My opk is getting lighter already, so I'm hoping for O today some time. I've had a couple right ovary twinges. Yesterday, I had really sharp, burning right ovary pains a few hours prior to getting my positive, so it definitely seems like things are coming together.
