when should I set up my first day cycle?

I started my first day cycle just spotting the last Sept 10. I'm confused how to set it in my calendar, I mean if should I start as my first day of my menstruation or it would be Sept 11?

Spotting is never counted as menstruation, always stick with flow. Dont worry about colour, we dont all bleed red on day 1, but it must be more than spotting.

My doctor told me that spotting never counts, boo... I spot for 2 days and then start heavy the 3rd day and that is the day she told me to use for my start day.
