Stress and the Menstrual Cycle
I have heard conflicting information about whether or not stress would throw off a cycle. I recently started a new job as a 1st grade teacher and the week before school, last week, and this weekend's move have been super stressful. I am on CD33 of a pretty regular 28 day cycle. I don't want to think that I'm pregnant because of previous cycles of disappointment, I just want to make sure the reason I haven't started yet isn't an underlying issue.

Out of the past 15 cycles I had one where my period was late for 5 days and I was not pregnant. I believe it was due to a medication I was taking at that time. Otherwise, my life is stressful at all times it seems and my period is never late; in the contrary, my luteal phase seems shorter than it should be. For me, stress does not affect cycle length. It may be different for others. Have you taken a pregnancy test yet? All the best.

I dont take any medications normally so I know it wasn't that. I haven't taken a test because every time this has happened before (being 2-3 days late and up to 10 days 1 time), they were negative. I'm not up fpr anpther negative test right now. I keep expecting to start at any moment. It just isn't happening.

I do strongly believe stress can delay ovulation. One month I didn't think about testing my lh surges much. And I surprised myself cuz my surge came earlier than all the other months I was testing and thinking about it constantly. The more I tested and thought about ovulation the later I would ovulate. For 3 months I ovulated 1 day later each month. The 4th month I didn't worry about testing and when I did I got a surge at cycle day 15 instead of 17, 18 and 19. This month my partner and I got in a huge fight and I got my surge at day 19 again. And if ovulation is delayed af is delayed. My af has never been late if I count from when I ovulated. If I just count 30 cycle days it's off. I have to count 14 days from my surge. It's right every time.

I would test, but I keep thinking in the back of my head that I'm going to start and a test will be a waste of money. I thought I was spotting earlier, but that has since stopped.
After three years of trying, I have really grown cynical of "a few days late". Although, 5 days is the latest it has been since last February. Maybe I will get one tomorrow.
