Question

5 wks, hcg rising but progesterone went down, should I be concerned?

5 weeks along, hcg betas tripled in 48 hrs from 263 to 795 but progesterone went down from 23 to 19. With my DD my then OB-GYN in 2010 had put me on progesterone and baby aspirin. This time around my OB-GYN says my levels are fine and I do not need supplements. I have a history of miscarriages the last one being in march of this year...I am freaking out..anyone had a similar experience?

If I was you I be demanding to be pout on it, I had my progesterone draws done at 4weeks and it was
140 equivalent to 44 then again at 4w4d and it was 190 equivalent to 60. The reason I converted it to give you an idea as it is measured differently in Australia, Canada, England etc.
You shouldn't worry every ones bodies are different and my levels are high as I ovulated more than one egg, waiting to see if twins.
If I was you and you say you have a history, it can't hurt to be on the progesterone supplement. I would say you want it, it will make you feel more relaxed.

Keep us posted sweetie. GL

Oh I just saw you didn't know a lot about the progesterone levels. So when you first become pregnant those levels will rise due to the ovulation and the corpeous luteal and depending on how many follicles you had and ovulated. In pregnancy your progesterone levels are not like HCG they are expected to rise and drop and rise and drop, they do not just go up up up, like HCG.

Hope this helps

When I was pregnant with my first, at 5.3 wks, my progesterone was 19.3. My OB had them retested at 5.6 wks bc she said she supplements anything below 20. By 5.6 wks, it was 23 or 24 (I can't remember now) so I was OK. Is your Dr going to test you again in a few days to see if they are rising?

Thx stickybean1976 and eag923 for your responses..
When I was put on Progesterone last time my dr had said there is no clear evidence they work and called them a placebo she gives to women to reassure them...she told us this after I gave birth...:) I don't think she monitored the progesterone numbers back then, and I had done very little research of my own at the time...
This time around I am older I will be 36 in November and I am much more nervous..
The dr has not asked me for another blood test to monitor if prog increases they have just asked me to come back in two weeks...this is a different practice from my first pregnancy, we moved to a new city last year,.
I am going to push for supplements but so far they are not being receptive...I am encouraged by your responses to push them harder... Wish me luck... I will do whatever I can to make this one stick..
Thx again ladies...
