Progesterone levels 7dpo

Hi everyone I'm ttc baby no 3 after stopping breastfeeding end of jan. my first two were conceived within the first month and I feel so lucky as this time I'm not pregnant yet. I have had an ultra sound all is normal and blood work done all is normal however my 8dpo progesterone was 18 around 5.75 in the us so doc says unsure if I did ovulate as its borderline? However I did get positive opk surge and ovulation pain and exactly 14 days later my af arrived... Worried now as if I'm not ovulating I don't even stand a chance. My doctor said to try for a couple more months and he will refer me to a specialist which is really scary as thought I was oing as always seem to have af after the time I thought I was oing.
