Question

Doctor Appt. - still TTC

My hubby and I have been ttc since September 2013. I've been taking my bbt and using opks and no luck. In April I was due for my annual physical and I talked to my obgyn about it then and she pretty much just brushed me off and said that if I didn't get pregnant after a year then to come back. So my appointment is set for mid September to go back in. This time it's with a different obgyn because my other one is on family leave. Can anyone tell me what to expect? It looks as though it's set for a 15 min appointment and I'm afraid they are just going to brush me off again. Does anyone have any insight on what to expect at this brief appointment?

Yep. Been there. Done that. I started TTC at 27 and at 6 months I knew something was wrong. My regular OBGYN dismissed my concerns and said to come back after a full year of trying. Oh, and did I mention she was 8 months pregnant at the time? After all, she assured me, it took her 8 months of trying before she got pregnant. Yeah, thanks a lot doc! I went back after a year of no success and she gave me a prescription for Clomid. I thought it was pretty bold of her to just let me walk out with this Clomid Rx and not monitor me. It didn't feel right, so I set up an appointment with an RE later that month. We went through diagnostic testing and came back with "unexplained infertility". Even though we didn't get answers, we've gotten pregnant twice with the help of a great fertility clinic (first was a m/c, hoping this one sticks!). BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE!

My point is that if you suspect something might be wrong, fight for testing, see a specialist, seek treatment. Do NOT let them brush you off. I suspect they might try to do the same to you this time. If you're over 35 and have been trying for 6 months of more, you should see a fertility specialist. If you're under 35 and have been trying for a year or more, see a fertility specialist. They're called specialists for a reason! They can help more than a regular OBGYN. I hope you get the help you need. Good luck!

I fully agree with the previous answer. It is crucial to be involved in every aspect of treatment and your own fertility. After all you know your body better than the doctor initially does. The very best wishes and the Lord's blessings.

Thanks you guys for your thoughts. Another thing that sucks about it is that the closest place for me to see an RE will be over an hour away. Down side of living in a smaller area I guess. Hopefully they will be more helpful to me than the last person!
