Areola or nipple darkening?!

I'm 8dpo..I've always read that the areolas darkening can be an early sign of pregnancy. Well in my case, my areolas do not seem any darker, just my nipples. Like almost a deep red/purple. What are you thoughts? Anyone have the same symptoms? Would like input from someone who's been pregnant, thanks ladies! :)
