Clomid will make you ovulate, so yes, you can get pregnant without having had your period before starting clomid. If you do not get pregnant, then you will get your period because of your ovulating. 

The main thing is that they do an u/s and blood work to make sure your hormones are in the right levels and your uterine lining is where it should be. I wouldn't worry too much, I started w/o a period and I ovulated the first month .

If u dont know where u are in ur cycle, dont take clomid before a period, thats just silly. There are specific dates when it should be taken and there is a reason for those dates. I know ur feeling impatient, but ur asking for more trouble than not if ur taking it and af hasnt arrived yet.
I'm sorry, not gonna lie, but internet ppl dont give a damn if u mess up ur cycle or ur body trying something....be extremely careful where u take advice, esp about drugs. Stick with what ur doctor tells u...he/she went to school to learn this stuff!!!

I'm not an expert, but if you take clomid and your lining is not right (thick enough) then you might ovulate but that little seed won't have thick enough fertile ground to latch on and grow. Then your body will have to figure out how to get your hormones back on track. Just my $0.02 =).
