Question

Can emotional devastation affect conception?

How do any of you deal with the stress of not conceiving? My best friend is adopted - her mother tried for 9 years and never fell pregnant. Four months after bringing home her baby (my friend), she fell pregnant naturally!

I know how much stress affects conception, yet I can't seem to stop. The reason? I'm 43, my boyfriend is 44 and we've been trying for around three months. I know it's not a long time, but I feel like I'm racing against the clock. I had an AMH test done and am still waiting for the results.

I'm starting yoga this week. Any other suggestions?? I'm open to anything!

I had my 6th a 43 so there's hope, just stop trying, it will happen so long as both are healthy, take your vits,
Eve primrose till ovulation
Clomid if u need it
And relax hard as it is, took me 9 months to concieve lo so expect time to drag. Good luck xx

I think being relaxed does help. Try vitaminD3 and magnesium to improve you AMH score and don't believe the AMH score (I had a baby with a terrible score of less than 1pmol)

I know everyone has a story like your friend's mother, but that's an extremely small percentage of women who adopt - the stats are about 5% (so 95% don't get pregnant, about the same percentage as couples who give up on infertility treatment, much much lower than the percentage of couples who get pg while undergoing infertility treatment). The moral of the story: stress actually has very very little impact on fertility! There have also been several studies done on this, and they all show that stress-lowers-fertility is a myth (which also makes sense if you consider the number of babies born in war zones, refugee camps, etc). All of that is to say, you don't need to stress about stressing! It won't make it harder to get pregnant. But it is unpleasant, and yoga is a great way to generally feel better while dealing with ttc - also give yourself permission to feel stressed, its normal and healthy, but put a time limit on it and then go do something unrelated to ttc. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your answers. I'm very happy to discover that stressing about it doesn't make a difference.

I hope to post back eventually with a BFP!

I read somewhere recently that stress actually does NOT negatively impact conception (oh, wise internet with its conflicting information!)...so maybe believing it doesn't will make it easier to be less stressed about your stress making the thing you're stressed about more difficult. Also, yoga and chocolate :) Good luck!
