Question

Did I miss my window??

I'm a first timer at TTC this is my first cycle.. I have been researching and researching AND researching. My DH and I decided to start trying in the middle of my NuvaRing cycle. (I guess this was a bad decision) I figured I would take NuvaRing out, bleed, and start a whole new cycle and begin tracking my CM and my temp.

I began a new NuvaRing on June 15th and took it out June 24th.
I started a heavy period June 28th.
My period stopped July 2nd.

I have been tracking my temp and CM since the start of my period (on the 28th). My CM has been lotion/school glue/white sticky since my period ended (and still the same today).

Today I purchased an ovulation kit and for the heck of it I used one. I got a positive?!? I'm not supposed to ovulate (according to online charts and calculators) until July 12th. I did notice a rise in my temp on July 2nd but I didn't think anything of it. We did have sex July 6th. Have I missed my window??

It is going to be hard to tell how your cycles are going to run since you just came off of hormonal bc. Since most hormonal forms of bc stop ovulation, it may take a while for to start ovulating regularly. After I came off the pill (which works the same way as NuvaRing), it took me 3 months to start ovulating again. If your cm has remained hostile, then I would say you haven't ovulated yet. That is going to be more accurate than an opk since all they tell you is that you are trying to ovulate, not that actually are. Charting your temp is an excellent idea because that will confirm when ovulation occurred. If you think you o'd on 7/2, then you chart should be showing that by now. If you did o on 7/2 and had not had sex recently, then yes, you missed your window. If your chart isn't showing a distinct temp shift, then you prob didn't and you're still in the game. Just be patient.

Also, your cycles may not be 28 days now that you're off the ring. They may return to what they were like before you started bc, or they may be totally different, so you can't rely on apps or calculators to predict when you're going to o. After I came off the pill, my cycles became 31 days. After baby #1, they went to 27 days. I don't know what they would have gone to after baby #2 because I went on bc about 8 weeks post partum. So, you never know what's going to happen to your cycles after a big change. GL! Hope everything regulates for you fairly quickly! :)

There's no temp shift on your chart yet, so you haven't o'd yet. A positive opk means you're likely to ovulate in the next 12-48 hours, so grab hubby and get busy! That being said, I want to let you know that I've had positive opk's and not yet ovulated, coming off the birth control pill (on cd 48 and counting...). It takes the body some time to get back to normal ovulation after hormonal bc and there can be false starts along the way, so don't be discouraged if this turns out to be a false alarm. It's great that you're temping, because in a few days you'll know for sure. But many women start o'ing right away, so you and your dh could be first-month lucky - fingers crossed!
