Question

anyone ever been misdiagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy?

The doctor told me he couldn't see my baby and he thinks it's an ectopic pregnancy but how many ultrasounds have actually shown the baby at 4 weeks pregnant? I'm getting a second opinion Monday but I was just wondering has this happen to anyone or did you know of anyone that this has happened to before? I could be just really early but I'm praying everything works out I'm trying again after a 20 week miscarriage.

Did he ever do an ultrasound at 5,6 or 7 weeks?

Sorry for your loss :(

What you can see on ultrasound depends a lot on what your HCG levels are. Your HCG needs to be at least 1500-2000 before you will see anything at all on an ultrasound (FYI I had a transvaginal u/s at 5wk3d with a HCG of just over 800 and they couldn't see anything, 3days later with an HCG of 1647 they could see two gestational sacs).

Have you had your HCG levels checked? If so, and they are above the threshold and still nothing is seen on u/s then that may be why your ob is wanting to check for ectopic. Four weeks is really early to see much. But even so, if there is any reason why your doctor thinks it may be ectopic it's best to find out.

Good luck. I hope everything works out for you.
