Question

D&C after miscarriage at 5 wks 6 days?

I found out last night at the E.R. that I had a spontaneous miscarriage at 5 wks 6 days pregnant due to bleeding & they couldn't find baby on sono. I have a doctor appointment this morning to see if I will need a D&C. I really don't want one. I guess my question is how many of you had to have a D&C with such a early miscarriage? I haven't had any clotting or tissue come out just bright & dark red blood so I'm thinking they are going to make me do a D&C. Sorry for Tmi...

The earlier the miscarriage occurs the less likely it is that you need a D&C. This procedure is necessary if fetal material is retained and does not pass. It is also helpful if you are dealing with uncontrollable heavy bleeding. I had 6 miscarriages during the last 10 years, all in the first trimester. 3 of them required a D&C. Reasons were heavy bleeding twice and once it was a missed miscarriage at 11 weeks. I am so sorry you are experiencing this loss. It is such a sad and traumatic event. You will be in my prayers. Best wishes and the Lord's blessings.
