400 -800 mcg Folic acid is recommended......personally, I am of the opinion that 400 mcg is on the low side.

My prenatal has 1000mg (1g) and I took an additional 4000mg from TTC up til 12 wks pregnant, then dropped back to 2000mg (plus the prenatal). U'll pee out whats not needed. I'd go with at least 1000mg.

My fertility Dr. told me 500mg is enough for women TTC with no known issues or previous miscarriages, then the recommendation is 1000mg. If you are concerned, you can just take the 1000 to be on the safe side and anything not needed will leave your body through your urine.

I was told 800 mg when TTC, and 800-1000 mg when pregnant.

Are we talking about micrograms (mcg) or milligrams (mg)? I was under the impression that Folic acid's value was given in mcg. For example 800 mcg equal 0.8 mg. You would not be taking 800 mg.
