From what I've read, it helps with conception (that doesn't necessarily mean in "no time;" I've known plenty of people in fertility treatment that have taken folic acid for years), and helps prevent miscarriage. However, its main purpose is to prevent neural tube & heart defects. Also, when TTC, they recommend 800 mg, which is why they tell you to start prenatal vitamins several mos before you even start trying.

Ty for that info i just heard alot of folks say how they took folic acid an got pregnant within 3wks of taking it. idk im so desprate right now um going to try taking the folic acid. i hope it works..

I took 6g while ttc and it still took me 18 months with zero fertility issues for me or hub. FA will help as far as making u healthy and stock piling the nutrients u need to ensure the health of ur fetus, but its not a guarantied get pregnant quick kind of thing. Def take it tho, it can only help!!

800mg is the recommended amount which can be found in most prenatal vitamins. I asked my RE when we first started ttc and she looked over what I was taking and said to just stick with the 800mg and not take anymore than that which was in my prenatal vitamin. Good luck!
