Can a pregnancy test predict ovulation?

I read a post on another site where someone claimed that LH and Hcg are very similar hormones and because of this you can sometimes get a positive Hcg test when ovulating? Could this explain the faint positive I had a week ago? I've had nothing since. Does this mean that my period probably isn't due for another week? I have no info on my cycle and have no idea when my period is due so I have no clue when to test that's why I have been testing for over a month!!

LH and hcg are very similar. OPKs can detect both, but hpts can only detect hcg. If you had a positive hpt, it was either detecting hcg or was a faulty test.

That said, just a reminder to people not to use opks for pregnancy tests - although opks CAN detect hcg, they are really good at detecting LH and lots of women have an additional LH surge right before AF. Use the right test for the right situation.

The alpha subunits of LH & hCG are identical, but hpt's look specifically for the hCG beta subunit, so they will not pick up the alpha subunits of LH and yield a positive for ovulation. Def look in to tracking ur next cycle when/if it comes...this must be so frustrating for u right now. Id go crazy not knowing where I was in a cycle.
