Question

Just curious!

So I did my first trigger shot yesterday. Tomorrow is my first IUI. I am so excited and just ready to finally be pregnant!!!! I'd love to hear what it is like, did it work for you and if you know what you are having (or had), twins??? Hubby and I both have a feeling it's going to work and since I have two good looking follicles we keep thinking that twin boys are in our future!

I did Superovulation and IUI 9 years ago and we were not successful. Not to dampen your positive outlook but just because there are two follicles and you are doing IUI it does not mean that you will become pregnant. It all depends on age, egg quality, etc in the individual. Also, fertilization and implantation still have to occur. Even with IUI the odds are against you. My Dr. says IUI raises the chances between 5 and 11 %. I have done numerous assisted cycles of all sorts and despite great looking follicles etc etc only one out of 5 ART cycles was successful and one out of 7 timed ovulation cycles with trigger shot was successful. I hope you will be successful this time but don't be disappointed if it fails. Best wishes and the Lord's blessings.

The IUI is a pretty uncomplicated procedure. The trigger shot will give you loads of pregnancy symptoms, so do not test until after about 10dpo (even better just wait for your blood test at 14dpo). Make sure you have sex again when you get home because this increases your chances even more. Good luck :)

Thank you opalfoxy! It is always nice to get feedback that is helpful. Trying to be positive in this game is hard and having others be negative is hurtful. This site is about encouragement and positivity, and you have given me that. I have been told by my doctor and I've read in several places that your first IUI carries the highest rate of success. With two good follicles and my husbands counts being good, the trigger and the letrozole I feel that my chances of conception are good. I'm only 36 and while that is considered to be an advanced maternal age, it's not that old. The person that performed the IUI said that it went very well and that too gives me hope. Good luck to you and baby dust (as they say!)!!! Keep everyone posted on your journey. We're all in this together!

Your question was whether IUI worked for you. I gave you an honest answer about my experiences. I surely wish you the best of luck. At the same time I feel it is best to not expect too much. I know from my own experiences how that mindset can quickly get you down when things don't work out like imagined. The best wishes and the Lord's blessings.

Phillips, tell me, do you have any children?

We have 4 children. I took us 13 years to conceive our first. We went through 3 failed IVFs, 1 failed GIFT and succeeded with ZIFT. After that we suffered 6 miscarriages and one blighted ovum. It took 1 failed IUI and 7 cycles of timed ovulation with trigger shot to conceive the next. Recently, we have done 8 cycles of Femara with trigger shot and 2 with added FSH injections trying to conceive one more, all attempts without success. This is where I am coming from.....All hormone levels great, all follicles great, timing perfect every time and the chances of success are not overwhelming. Just ask anyone involved in an IVF program. Unfortunately, it takes often more than 1 try. I hope and pray that you indeed will be successful this month. I know how it feels to really want a baby. Love and prayers.

I have two daughters. Both conceived on the first round of clomid. It seems to me that your difficulty is unlike mine. I am hopeful because my doctor says my chances are very good. I appreciate your input but it seems that your are very negative. I am looking for people to comment that are positive in the face of adversity. Showing the human triumph. You being a Christian woman should understand that.

Not being negative, just answered your initial question. If I had a negative outlook I would have stopped trying years ago. I just have a realistic outlook, hoping for the best but not without caution. Best wishes.
