If u O 3 days before ur suspected af date, yes u can become pregnant from that intercourse, BUT, af follows ovulation so therefore af would be moved ahead to a different date and not technically late. Ur entire cycle length would increase. Just like if u were to O say cycle day 7 but normally have a 28 day cycle...af wont be due cd29, she will come sooner. The amount of time she is "early" or "late" by, depends on ur normal luteal phase length (day after O to day before af). Avg is 14 days, so to make it easier, we'll assume urs is 14. If u O'd 3 days before u expect af to arrive, then u cant expect to see her for at least another 12-16 days after O (luteal length can change +/- 1-2 days per cycle). Ur period isnt late, ur ovulation was and the period just follows.

As for testing, wait a minimum of 12 days after the date u suspect u O'd, ideally 14 days would be more accurate if u can wait.
