Question

OPKs and ovulation pain

I used OPKs for the first time this cycle. I took a test at 3pm on Friday and I got nothing, then at 9pm Friday I got a smiley face. That night, I woke up at 4am (early Saturday morning) with SEVERE ovulation pain. The next evening (Saturday) I took another test at 9pm and I got nothing. But that night, I again woke up at 4 am (early Sunday evening) with SEVERE ovulation pain again. Never had ovulation pain like that before! It felt exactly the same both nights, both times on my right ovary.

The cycle before was annovulatory I think (or really short), and the cycle before that was a chemical pregnancy.

When do you think I ovulated? What was with that pain I felt in the middle of the night?

Would love your thoughts and opinions!!

Me: 33, DH: 36, TTC since 9/13 1 chemical ectopic @ 5 weeks 9/13, treated w/ methotrexate 1 chemical @ 4 weeks 2/14 BFP on 3/30/14!!!

Ovulation pain can happen before, during or after ovulation. I used to think that when I got that severe stabbing pain that was when I was actually ovulating, but one cycle I had a scan hours after that pain, and the follicle hadn't yet ruptured so I know that the two aren't directly linked. Also, while I was taking clomid I would get intense ovulation pain that would make me have difficulty standing up and walking around and it would last for days rather than just moments. the only way to know for sure when you ovulate is to do temping. That won't work for this cycle, however, as you need to have a week of temps before ovulation to see the pattern. Most people ovulate 1-2 days after their first positive OPK so it could have been Sat or Sun. Have you seen a change in cervical mucus? That can help confirm ovulation too.

Thanks, shelob. I was actually thinking that I ovulated right at the time of the pain (which lasted about 2 hours both times), but now I suppose that isn't what happened--thanks for sharing your experience.

Unfortunately, I didn't pay attention to CM after Sunday, and I didn't temp. I guess if I O'd 12-48 hours my first OPK that would be sometime between Sunday at 9 am and Monday at 9 pm. Interesting! This all happened nearly 2 weeks ago, I'm in the 2ww and trying to figure out when AF is suppose to come and when I can reasonably expect an early HPT to be accurate. I'm going to give myself a little more time, and consider my O date to have been that Monday, which means I'm currently 11 dpo and 4 days before expected AF.

There is hope! :-) Thank you again.
