Question

Using metformin for PCOS

I've started on Metformin today, building up from 500mg a day to 1500mg in 2 weeks - does anyone have any experience of this? What can I expect?

A lot of the stories I see online sound miraculous bit I don't want to gte my hopes up. Anyone had a good or bad experience?

I had a really bad experience with it. I already had inrush before being diagnosed with pcos. When I was on metformin I couldn't be more than a 2 min sprint from a toilet! Doctor said to wait it out and it would get better...it didn't. I tried regular metformin, extended release and the brand name version glumetza. All had the same horrible side effects. On the plus side, I did have regular cycles when I managed to stay on it for 3 months. I was miserable but did lose 15 lbs, although not sure if that was just from the 7-10 bathroom trips most days. If you don't have any digestive issues or sensitivity you shouldn't have too much of a problem with it.

I have also been using 500MG Metiformin but only for like 3 weeks.
My doctor has put me on it for 6 months and then return to see him after that . The only probably I had with it for the first week was I was queasy and gassy from it.

Some advice was giving to me when I asked the question on here about the Met , she said to make sure u eat something with it. And I started taking it after I are and that has helped a lot and it no longer makes me queasy..

I've been on 500mg 3 times a day for almost 4 years now. My cycles have become regulated after losing 2 stone and my cycsts last April had gone but after takiing clomid they had come back on one of my ovaries I am due to have another scan next week to see if my cysts have gone.

If you are overweight the metformin will help you loose weight I was told but it didn't help me at all. I would advise take it with food as well.

I would say though the help of me loosing weight and taking the metformin has really helped me with my cycles they are down to 35 days apart ( except this one I am a week late with bfn ) Good luck to you.

If you stick with a low-carb diet along with Metformin, you shouldn't get the tummy side effects.. and it will help you lose a little bit of weight which helps ovulation..

Make sure you check your blood sugar, I am currently on metaformin. For the first 7 days I only took one a day . Then 4 pills a day for 7 days and finally I am on 3 pills a day .

The 4 pills a day was very difficult I got very hypoglycemic I went from a regular blood sugar of 110 or so. Down to 65 . I believe the medicine does good for ovulation but it is very difficult on your system if your not watching what you eat . Don't just eat 3 meals, ,ale sure your eating healthy snacks between meals

Hope this helps
