Question

First doctors appointment ttc nearly 1 year with no luck

Im hoping someone will be able to help.
I have a doctors appointment tomorrow as me and hubby have been ttc for nearly a year with no luck. I have already had my progesterone levels taken which came back normal. I wondered what happens next. I cant bear to be told 'it will happen' 'just relax' 'have fun' blah blah blah...
Has anyone else had a doctors appt and happy to share what happens next.
Hubby has done a home sperm test kit which also came back normal. Thanks for any advice xx

My gyn ran cd3 blood tests to check LH, TSH, PRL, FSH, CBC and HbA1C (luteinising hormone, thyroid-stimulating hormone, prolactin, follicle-stimulating hormone, complete blood count and glycohemoglobin) then cd21 P4 (progesterone). He also had me call the office on cd1 to be booked for an HSG & SSG (hysterosalpingogram and sonosalpingogram) and had hub's semen analysis done. Idk that I would rely too much on the accuracy of an at-home SA test, as there is more to male fertility than just the count. If u have been trying for a year, then most likely u wont be turned away, just tell him ur concerned about ur fertility and would like to be tested. Chances are they'll do it anyways.
Hope this helps! Good luck tomorrow! =))

It really depends what country you are in and what the health system is like. In New Zealand I had my GP do some basic hormone testing and a sperm analysis for my husband in the month before I reached the 1 year mark. Then she had all the data she needed to give me a referral to a specialist. There they put me onto clomid which I have up to 9 cycles of (I am on cycle 6 now) because I had irregular periods so they wanted to get me ovulating more frequently. Because I had been pregnant briefly (miscarried at 10 weeks just a few days before my first specialist appointment!) they didn't do any more invasive testing at that point. Now as we have been on clomid for 6 cycles they are about to get a more in depth sperm analysis done and and HSG for me. Also in three more cycles I will qualify for fully funded IVF and while waiting for that there are some more in depth testing they may do, but as IVF gets around most of the problems they might find I don't know just how much they will do.

It depends on your doctor and what you are willing to go through (and pay for). My best advice is to ask a million questions, and do not be afraid to get a second opinion. I ended up getting a bad RE (diagnosed me with a "semi-broken ovary"), and I wish that someone would have reminded me I was in control. Another thing to remember is that you can get away with about half of the tests that they suggest. It is so expensive, save money where you can. Good luck!

Thank you all very much for replying i really appreciate it.
My progesterone level came back at 43 to which my doctor said was normal as its above 40.
I have got have my tft, fbc, rubella serology, fsh, prolactin taken tomorrow.
Next step is for hubbys SA if we dont conceive this month. She has said that if i dont conceive in the next 2 months she will refer me to the fertility clinic :-(
Again thank you for taking the time to answer my question and i wish you all so much luck in ttc. X
