Clomid doesn't only induce ovulation it can help strengthen your eggs. It boosts the estrogen production in the body. I think your doc is trying to get your eggs to be more bigger and mature so they are more viable for fertilisation :) Don't stress you'll be fine!!!! Yes it should help you conceive :)

My husband and I tried for 18 months to get pregnant, with a miscarriage about halfway through that time period. My doctor put me on 50 mg of Clomid, but never did the progesterone test to make sure I ovulated. So that month was wasted. We did another round of 50 mg Clomid and that didn't work. The last month of Clomid, I was on 100 mg. We visited a fertility specialist and prepared for the next step of insemination, but the 100 mg of Clomid worked! Just try, as hard as it may be, to not stress out and make sure to follow the doctor's instructions on when to have intercourse and make sure not to miss a dose of your medicine.

My husband and I have been married for 7 years. I planned our wedding around my cycle - so needless to say I was VERY regular. All the sudden my body changed and it was very difficult - my cycle were irregular nothing was working. Last month I asked my GYN to prescribe CLomid for me - and she did. Started out on 50mg, cd 5-9 and ovulate 7-10 days afterwards. My husband and I did the BD arouind then but I didn't track it and it didn't take. This month same thing - 50mg clomid on cd 6-10, and I bought the $ store OPK's. I took them twice a day and sure enough on the 9th day after the clomid it was positive. My DH and I BD'd and sure enough - we are pregnant with our first. Just keep trying and track it. You'd be surprised what you learn about your body when you start tracking BBT, CM and use OPK's.
