It might regulate your cycle but it also may do nothing. Generally the metformin helps individuals who are on the heavier side and diagnosed PCOS. It will just depend if this is the right medication to help your body ovulate regularly

I was put on that last year to try and help and it stopped my periods for 5 months and made me really ill! I dont know anyone it has worked for but that doesnt mean it wont for you. How long have you been on it and how long are your cycles normally??

women with slight to full blown pcos usually have insulin resistens, meaning their bodies react slower to using insulin to breakdown glucose. it happens to slim women as well as normal weight to overweight women. 1 teori is that the cysts mess up the insulin hormone, so if ur doc has put u on it, hes trying to fix the prb n help u balance that hormone. most women come off it again when their glucose levels stabilise. u can also help to make the process faster by eating healthy and excercising. if ure a bit heavy, loosing a few kg helps imensily. some women notice no change in cycle length, others like me have experience a 64 day cycle, never happened b4, but my bloodsugar is now so stabilised i hope to go off it in a month or 2. goodluck

I am on glumetza now which is a brand name version because I couldn't handle the digestive symptoms associated with metformin. However on both glumetza and metfortmin I got a natural period within 30 days of starting them and continued to have natural periods while I was on them. If I went off of them though it was right back to 50-80 day cycles. I also lost about 15 lbs on metformin but not sure if that was because of the digestive issues or not.

Thanks everyone. It seems that every one has very different experiences on it. I actually feel better on it then I have felt in years lots of energy and just slight stomach discomfort. I actually asked this question a little early I have been on it for just 4 full days and I have started spotting I will be started Clomid soon. Finally the end of a 50 + day cycle.

I started Metformin 500mg one tablet twice a day in December. I got my period exactly 28 days later! I was super excited thinking that I found the miracle drug to regulate my cycles. 5 months later and I've had to have my periods induced with Provera. Metformin does not appear to be working in me but maybe that's because I don't have PCOS? Hope you have better luck with it. :)
