You cannot do an IUI at home unless you are using donor sperm or your husbands sperm has been spun into IUI format. You absolutely cannot put unwashed semen into your uterus. What you are describing needing supplies for is an ICI.
Me and DH had to use a sperm donor and did do at home IUIs, however it was a washed specimen. With an IUI you would not use the soft cup or egg white because the washed sample would not come out of your uterus. A soft cup is used to hold an ICI specimen in the vagina up next to the cervix. Please do not put unwashed semen in your uterus, you risk compromising your fertility.

Thought I would write to say I have tried home iui, didn't work for me :(, after doing further research found out that if you put unwashed Sperm in your uterus the semen can cause severe contraction in your uterus which could lead you to a trip to the er or doctor. There is something in the semen that does this. But that's all I learned so far. But I did find out you can pay for your hubby's Sperm to be washed (just washed no extra costs) to do this at home. It's cheaper then having the docs do a full iui.

Eek! Please do not do this at home for the reasons mentioned below. And I've gotta call your bluff on this one and say that your friend couldn't possibly be a doctor because no highly educated person in the medical profession would ever be willing to do this. If something happened to you she/he would lose their license and not doctor would take that risk.
I know it's frustrating hun, believe me, after many an IUI I had to go the IVF route so I do get how much it sucks. My heart goes out to you and I wish you the very best of luck in getting pregnant, just be safe!
