hpt diagnosis

Okay so i am on CD 27 which is when im supposed to start my period. been having light cramping on and off but still no signs of AF coming so i took an HPT test cvs brand and i took it at around 5ish in the afternoon. well i waited the two minutes and it said plain old negative. so i threw it in the trash. Then i went to the bathroom and just for the fun of it i took it out the trash can ( an hour later) and sure enough it has this half faint line on the control line next to the big fat blue one! i wish i could upload it but its not letting me do it. but why would it show negative the first two minutes then an hour later it literally shows half of a faint line (the begining is light blue line then it stops in the middle but you can still see the line in the light but its very very very faint!) i plan on testing tomorrow morning anyway.
Could this be a deffect?
