I'm confused
I am supposedly 6 weeks and 3 days pregnant. Today I started bleeding so I went to the er and they did an ultrasound. There was a yolk sac, but no baby and no heartbeat. They also said that my hcg levels are low, but they have nothing to compare them to to see if they are going up or dropping. Has anyone had this happen before?!

Yes, ugh. I am so sorry. It is likely that horrible term "blighted ovum" - one of the cruelest tricks of Mother Nature. It's when the pg continues but no baby develops. When I first learned about this, I didn't believe it was possible, but it's very real. The body does every pg thing (produces HCG, creates a yolk sak, gives you all the symptoms) except create a baby. I'm not saying 100% that's what it is in your case, but it's a strong possibility. Did they mention "blighted ovum" at all?

a friend of mine had this happen to her.. they kept telling her to get a D&C that it was a blighted ovum and nothing would become of it.. but she stuck to her guns and said no.. went back a either a week or two later and tada! a baby was there! :) i went in at what i thought was 8 wks pregnant, when i got to the hospital i was told that i was two weeks behind that the baby was measuring 6 weeks and due to bleeding i would probably miscarry they told me to go home and wait.. well i relaxed, stayed calm.. two weeks later i went back and the baby was nice and formed, arms legs, fingers, ect. (big bobble head and all lol) just relax and hope for the best. sometimes miracles DO happen :)

Wow, I wish I had those kind of miracles and I'm happy to hear that. I guess b/c I saw our baby and the heartbeat at 5w5d (later mc'ed), something should be showing on the u/s or it's likely a blighted ovum. Also, with both of my miscarriages, they started with bleeding. I do tend to go straight to the negative after the year I've had.
Are you sure you're at least 6 weeks? Maybe you're not as far along as you thought. And did you do an abdominal or transvaginal u/s? The transvaginals allow you to see more. I hope when you go back for your next u/s you have one of those miracle stories and your baby is just fine.

They did mention a blighted ovum, but she didn't say it quite like that, I knew what she meant though. I had both a types of u/s. I am almost positive that I am a 6 weeks. The start date of my last period was Nov. 4th. I have just recently started passing clots, so I think this isn't going to end happily. Thanks ladies.
