Positive and negative new choice

I am 2 weeks late - I had a negative beta with hcg less than 1 about 1 1/2 weeks ago - but I have a history of extremely low hcg testing with an 18 at 5 weeks along with my last son - went on to have a healthy pregnancy, so that doesn't mean 100% I'm not pregnant. I took 2 new choice today - 1 at 1 pm and 1 at 6 pm. The first was clearly positive within about 2 minutes, the second negative - how does that happen?
