Question

Pregnyl trigger??

So confused, I'm having I stimulated iui because we have to use donor sperm (female partner) and I'm otherwise healthy no fertility issues. However they have found with my ultrasounds for monitoring I actually have pco. No symptoms and not causing any problems. With this round of iui (second round) I have a large follicle but not enough hormone to release so they're giving me pregnyl. Only I know nothing about it except I inject it tonight. The nurse wasn't very good at explaining.. Anyone else had this, success? Problems? Anything I need to know?

Pregnyl is hcg, which is the pregnancy hormone. They can use this to simulate the LH (lutenizing hormone), which is what triggers ovulation. When you take the pregnyl, it will cause you to ovulate all mature follicles you have, typically about 36 hours after the injection. Because it IS the pregnancy hormone, it will give you false positive pregnancy tests. It generally takes 10-12 days to clear your system, but to be safe, most doctors say not to test until 14 days after the shot. Some people "test out the trigger" by taking a pregnancy test every day until it turns negative, then they know if they get a positive test after that, it's a real positive and not still caused by the injection.

Good luck!
