HSG and Sonohystogram
Hi all! My infertility specialist has decided to have an HSG and a Sonohystogram next week. I've been reading online that the HSG can be extemely painful. I wanted to ask on this, if anyone has had experience with these two? And, if it is, in fact, painful. I just want to know what to prepare myself for.

Hi im due to do mine next month (Next cycle), My doc strongly recomends i take two pain killers before i go in! I have looked on youtube for peoples storys and they all seem to say the most painfull bit is when the dye is going through your tube and then it goes away! I hope it's like that for me but keep me updated on how you go!

I had a hsg done and yes take at least up to 800mg of some kind of asprin. It wasnt to bad at first and it only hurt because my left tube is blocked. The right side was uncomfortable but tolerated. I read it does hurt more with a blockage. And if I remember right I spotted like four or five days after it. It all goes pretty fast and it is nice to know whats going on in there. I found it easier to expect some pain that way I didnt freak out if it happened lol. Good Luck and hope your tubes are all clear :-)

Thank you Starbird! I also felt like if I prepared for the pain, I'll be ready. Can you tell me ( from your opinion or knowledge) what happens if there is a blockage? I'm hoping not. My dr found 2 cysts on one ovary, which is why we are going forward with this now. After the depo shot, things went back to normal for awhile and in Jan my cycles went haywire. Trying now to figure out if there's a hormonal imbalance. Should get my bloodwork and test results on my appt on Aug 1st. Gotta get through these two things next week first!

Hi everyone! I said I would come back to update after having these two done. I had the HSG and it was a breeze. My tubes were open and barely felt anything besides a mild discomfort or pressure. I had the saline ultrasound today and .... It sucked. Granted, I'm thankful that nothing was found besides a cyst on my right ovary ( which I already knew)... It was painful and lots of severe cramps after. Its tolerable though, i just took some ibuprofin. With the HSG, I felt fine after and even worked out later in the day.... Not today! Hope this helps.

The saline ultrasound is a sonohysterogram. The fill your uterus with saline and do an ultrasound to check the lining for polyps and fibroids. Sadly, the one cyst I have hasn't gone away so I'll be having a laparoscopic surgery to have it removed on 8/9. Then, starting clomid!!!
Good luck! I hope your HSG is as simple and painless as mine was and you get good results!!!

well finally got my HSG done and i have broken bones before and i think that was worse, i bleed for 6 to 7 hrs afterwards and then had a internal ultrasound to check my follies and i think it may ahave aggrevated it and i was in alot of pain for 2 days following but seem to be coming good now, even BDing is still to painful so i think it is safe to say that the dye reacts differenty to people i have a very high pain threshhold and on a scale from 1 to 10 it was 11, definatly one of the most painful things i have ever experienced.
